ENCLOSURES. (For Commission Meeting of
July 18, 1983)
The Department of Public Works recommends
adoption of a resolution authorizing an
increase in contract amount of $22,375 for
the GARMENT CENTER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
PAVING PROJECT, allocating the additional
amount of $22,375 from Community Develop-
ment funds.
The contract was awarded to M. Vila & Associates, Inc. for the
construction of GARMENT CENTER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PAVING
PROJECT by Resolution 83-50 dated January 13, 1983.
The Public Works has been requested to fund the necessary en-
largement of a new water main in N. W. 22 Place east of Sth
Avenue and the installation of domestic and fire line water
services to parcels on both sides of N. W. 22 Pl. that the
Departments of Community Development and Planning are develop-
ing as part of their Garment Center Redevelopment Project from
the project Provision for Special Items. The total cost for
the work will be $22,375 and will nearly deplete the Provisions
for Special Items fund ($30,000), leaving insufficient funds
to cover other special items that we know are forthcoming.
The Director of the Department of Community Development has
confirmed that Community Development Funds are available for
the increase and concurs with my recommendation that the in-
crease be authorized. Doing the work now, as part of the
existing contract will avoid the cutting of the newly rebuilt
street in the near future and will result in a substantial
savings to the City.
