A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY'S PLEASURE AT
BEING SELECTED TO BE THE SITUS OF TF'E SECOND
INTERAMERICAN CONGRESS OF MUNICIPALITIES AND
ALLGC'ATING TI:E Sum OF $60,000 TOWARD THE EXPENSES
ASSOCIATED WITH SAP-IE.
WHLREAS, between the 23rd and 26th of February, the First
Interamerican Congress of Municipalities was held in the City
of Miami, with a participation of 158 delegates from 60 muni-
cipalities from 14 different countries of the hemisphere; and
WHEREAS, such congress contributed to the economic welfare
of the City of i•liami including its hotels, restaurants, and
public places; and
WHEREAS, the presence of delegates to such a congress con-
tributes to the positive image of our city; and
WHEREAS, the success achieved by t.ho First Interamerican
Congress of Municipalities lead to the creation by delegation
sought of the delegates of the Interamerican Center for Muni-
cipal Cooperation, Inc., which agreed to hold its next annual
meeting in the City of Miami and which elected Miami City
Commissioner, Demetrio Perez, Jr., as its President; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the aforesaid congress and Center
for Municipal Cooperation, Inc. is to advance the ideals of
cooperation and understanding among the municipalities through-
out the Americas and the world in order to improve the quality
of life in our local communities; and
WHEREAS, the Interamerican Center for Municipal Cooperation,
Inc. promotes activities such as workshops, seminars, confere-
ences, internship, and training programs that disseminate the
technical information required to accomplish the goals stated;
and
WHEREAS, the first congress was sponsored by the City of
Miami, Dade County, and the State of Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF' MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the City of Miami expresses its pleasure

at being selected to be the situs of the Second Interamerican
Cungress of Municipalities.
Section 2. The sum of $60,000. is hereby allocated from
special programs and accounts to defray part of the expenses
associated with said congress.
Section 3. The City Manager is hereby instructed to make
such funds available to the Interamerican Center for Municipal
Cooperation, Inc. under the same terms and conditions previous-
ly established with respect to the first congress.
