NOTE: This format letter was sent on September 29 & 30, 1983
to the Florida State T.egislattire.
Enclosed herein please find copies of Resolution Nos. 83-776
and 83-809, passed and adopted by the City of Miami Commission
at its meeting held on September 7, 1983, which are self-explan-
atories and read, basically as follows:
(A) R- 83-776
A Resolution strongly urging the Florida State
Legislature to name the new state facility, cur-
rently known as the South Florida Treatment and
Evaluation Center, located at 700 Northwest 23rd
Street in the City of Miami in honor of an out-
standing Black citizen, with the selection of the
particular individual so honored being made at the
discretion of members of the Legislature.
(B) R- 83-809
A Resolution strongly urging the Florida State
Legislature to adopt legislation classifying as
a life felony the crime of arson which causes
great bodily harm, permanent disability, or perma-
nent disfigurement to a firefighter responding to
the fire call for such arson thereby resulting in
the imposition of punishment by a term of life im-
prisonment or a term of not less than 30 years for
a person convicted of said crime.
