The City Commission approved by Motion No. 83-176 an amount of $15,000 as a contribution to this institution in their fund raising efforts. This contribution conforms to the City's past record in enhancing the educa- tional opportunities for our black students and contributing to this re- quest by the United Negro College Fund, Scholarship Drive. The United Negro College Fund, holds a nationwide, annual drive to raise monies for their Scholarship Fund. This effort greatly benefits the edu- cational opportunities for America's Black Youths. It will specifically be a significant asset to our community as it will make available educa- tional funds to bright and needy black students that otherwise would not be able to enjoy the benefits of a college education. It is, therefore, recommended that the allocation of $15,000 as a contri- bution to the United Negro College Fund Annual Scholarship Drive as authorized by Motion 83-176 be formally ratified and confirmed via the attached resolution, and funded from the Special Programs and Accounts, Contingency Fund.
