Hbward, irector Department of Recreation DATE 5UFfJECT RErERCNCEs ENCLOSURES' A_ May 3, 1983 V PILE, Amateur Baseball League The Miami Amateur Baseball Association is a project sponsored by the Recreation Department of the City of Miami. As the sponsor of this recreational program we must provide playing fields for 110 games. Miami Beach is allowing the league to use its field at no cost (in- cluding lights). Florida International University has been permitting games at their park for a minimum fee of $50 per game and $15 per hour for the use of the lights. They have done this in order to cooperate =l with this program. r^ This league is filling a gap in the recreational and educational needs of our community and represents the City of Miami throughout Dade County. _ Because the sponsors of the teams are defraying most of the expenses,. - the City of Miami is able to sponsor this important program at very - little cost to the City. Ln 'r '> The Miami Stadium charges $125 for rent per game, $50 for cleaning the stadium, and $90 per hour for use of the lights. We do not have funds budgeted for this league and it is virtually impossible to ask the sponsors for additional financial support. . The Recreation Department hereby requests funding'of the stadium charges from the contingency fund or a one-time use of the supplementary recrea- tion budget. Atiti/RM/mf cc: Cesar it.
