ENCLOSURES
-
On July 28, 1983, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. 83-702 which
allocated S400,000 of Community Development Jobs Program funds to the
follcwing agencies: InterAmerican Chamber of Commerce; Little Havana
Activities and Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc.; Small Business
Cpportunity Centers; and Senior Centers of Dade County, Inc. Each agency
developed a program for S100,000 to benefit Little Havana area residents.
The Chamber proposed to provide a job training and placement program in
the hotel and restaurant trades.
At its September 7, 1983 meeting, the City Commission questicned the need
for this project and requested that the Chamber submit another proposal
for use of these funds.
The Chamber has submitted a new proposal for the same project. A survey
of 130 restaurant owners concluded the major problem they face is the
"lack of professionalism among their employees, resulting in dissatisfied
clients".
The Chamber asserts that the proposed training will provide a greatly
needed service in the Little Havana area by developing skilled personnel.
A network of businesses has been established to provide jobs for persons
completing the training.
