WHEREAS, the State of Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services has approved a grant award of $131,748 to the City of Miami for "Recreation Programs for the Mentally Retarded (8th Year)" and WHEREAS, a total of $25,000 has been budgeted in Fiscal Year 1982-'83 General Fund, Special Programs and Accounts, Matching Funds for Grants as the City's contri- bution toward the aforementioned program; and WHEREAS, this program will provide no less than 1200 units of recreation educa- tion and leisure services for mentally retarded adults; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The following Special Revenue Fund is hereby established and re- sources are hereby appropriated as described herein: FUND TITLE: Recreation Programs for the Mentally Retarded (8th Year) RESOURCES: State ces; itv of Miami: da: Department of Health and Programs and Accc abl mative $131,748 Matching $ 25,000 APPROPIATIONS: Recreation Programs for the Mentally Retarded (8th Year) $156,748 Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, in so far as they are in conflict, are hereby repealed. Section 3. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this ordinance shall not be affected. The State Grant for the Mentally Retarded is currently being funded for its' eighth (8th) year by the State of Florida, Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. The purpose of this program is to provide no less than 1200 units of recreation and leisure education services for mentally retarded par- ticipants. A unit is defined as one client participating in a program provided by Programs for the Handicapped four (4) times per month. Types of programming will include sports and physical recreational ac- tivities, social and community interaction activities and passive ac- tivities designed to promote healthy and constructive use of leisure time. The contract period is from July 1, 1983 to June 30, 1984. The matching funds in the amount of $25,000 have budgeted in the fiscal year 1982-83 General Fund, Special Programs and Accounts. The matching funds of $25,000 can be appropriated with $131,748 awarded from the State of Florida for a total of $156,748 to create a new Special Revenue Fund entitled: "Recreation for the Mentally Retarded (8th Year)". It is the recommendation of this Department that the attached Ordinance be adopted.
