A RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE UTILIZATION OF UP TO $11,000,000 IN CITY OF NIAMI GENERAL OBLIGATION HOUSING BOND PROCEEDS FOR THE ACQUISITION OF LAND FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFFORDABLE RENTAL HOUSING IN THE SOUTHEAST OVERTOWN/PARK (%EST COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AREA. WHEREAS, the City Commission hereby determines that there exists a critical shortage of affordable rental housing in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the City Commission considers the availability of an adequate supply of affordable rental housing for families in the moderate and low income range to be of utmost importance to the economic well being of the City and its citizens; and WHEREAS, the development of such housing is contingent, in part, upon the availability of assembled land appropriate for such housing, either publicly or privately sponsored; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has determined it to be in the public interest to acquire and assemble such land as may be necessary to accomplish the development of such housing; and WHEREAS, the City Commission has previously authorized the utilization of Housing Bond Funds for the acquisition of land for the development of affordable rental housing (Resolution No. 81-173); and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission approved in principle the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Plan (Resolution No. 82-755); and WHEREAS, the City of Miami has a Interlocal Cooperation Agreement with Metropolitan Dade County (Resolution No. 83-187) for the implementation of the Southeast uvertown/Park Rest Redevelopment Program and the Intergovernmental Cooperation Agreement (Resolution 82-940) for the implementation of the Overtown Urban Initiatives Program; and CITY COMMIS MISSION MEETI14C OF OCT 25 1983 RESOW I .,, 831,4 ! 3 REMAM(s A A WHEREAS, the City of Miami is desirous of promoting the construction of affordable rental housing within the Southeast Overtown/Park West Community Redevelopment Project area) NOW, THEREFORE, BE 11' RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby directed to initiate the process leading to the acquisition of land suitable for the development of a minimum of 800 units of rental housing for low and moderate income families. Section 2. The City Manager is hereby directed to initiate the issuance of General Obligation housing bonds in the amount of up to Eleven Million Dollars ($11,000,000.00) for the purpose of funding such land acquisition, subject to such legal determinations as may exist.
