FOR FURNISHING ALL LABOR AND MATERIALS FOR THE DEMOLITION OF TWO (2) APARTMENT BUILDINGS TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AT A TOTAL COST OF $26,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE FIFTH YEAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUND; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS SERVICE. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received September 19, 1983 for the furnishing of all labor and materials for the Demolition of Two (2) Unsafe Apartment Buildings to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 18 potential suppliers and 5 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Fifth Year Community Development Fund; and WHEREAS, this service will be used by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services for the purpose of removing two (2) obsolete and deteriorated structures that are dangerous to the general public; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services recommend that the bid received from Tree Masters, Inc. be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bid; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The September 19, 1983 bid of Tree Masters, Inc. for furnishing all labor and materials for the Demolition of Two (2) Apartment Buildings to the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services at a total cost of $26,000.00 is hereby accepted with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Fifth Year Community Development Funds. For City Commission Meeting of October 13, 1983 ENCL.OSUREs Award of Bid and Resolution It is recommended that an award be made and a Resolution be passed accepting Tree Masters, Inc., for demolition of two unsafe structures, as per Bid No. 82-83-130, in the total amount of $26,000. In furtherance of the City's commitment of redevelopment and improvement of the neighborhood environment, it is necessary that two structures identified as obsolete, deteriorated and dangerous to the general public be removed. The buildings, located at 2020 S.W. 24 Street and 129 S.W. South River Drive, have been condemned as unsafe by the City of Miami Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services Department and processed in accordance with Section 202--Unsafe Structures of the South Florida Building Code. These structures continue to be open, vacant, vandalized, a harbor for vagrants and undesirables --posing a serious fire hazard to the respective neighborhoods. Funds are to be provided by the Community Development Program. The recovery of cost is subject to normal demolition lien procedures. The low bid of Tree Masters, Inc. is re- commended for award. This bidder is regis- tered as a Hispanic American business, in accordance with the Minority Vendor Procure- ment Procram.
