HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-83-0949J-83-697 RESOLUTION NO. k9_3 ;)'I;J A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF APPROXIMATELY 10,000 TONS OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS FROM BREWER COMPANY OF FLORIDA, GENERAL ASPHALT COMPANY, INC.AND PAN AMERICAN CONSTRUCTION COMPANY UNDER A METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY MULTIPLE AWARD CONTRACT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST OF $226,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE OPERATING BUDGET OF THAT DEPARTMENT AND THE GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND FUND; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THESE MATERIALS, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works is responsible for emergency and routine repairs of City streets as needed, and Asphaltic Concrete is the medium required for pavement and base repairs; and WHEREAS, there is a currently effective Metropolitan Dade County Contract No. 9205 with Brewer Company of Florida, Inc., General Asphalt Company, Inc., and Pan American Construction Company for the supply of Asphaltic Concrete County -Wide, subject to industry and destination price fluctuations; and WHEREAS, Purchase Orders will be issued to the Con- tractor having the lowest price per ton at the time of order; and WHEREAS, said firms' Contract constitutes responsible and responsive bids that meet the City's requirements for this herein material; and WHEREAS, this material will be used by the Department of Public Works for the purpose of repairing City streets as required; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Operating Budget and the General Obligation Bond Fund; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Public Works recommend that the purchase from Brewer Company of Florida, Inc., General Asphalt Company, Inc. and Pan American Construction Company be approved; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF OCT 25 1983 ISOUt,L,..... 8 j-9.1;, RP 4.t:Ks. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CCMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. That the purchase of apercximately 10,000 tons of Asphaltic Concrete from Brewer Company of Florida, Inc., General Asphalt Company, Inc. and Pan American Construction Company under Metropolitan Dade County Multiple Award Contract, for the Department of Public Works at a total proposed cost of $226,00O.00 is hereby approved with funds therefor hereby allo- cated from the Operating Budget of that Department and the General Oblication Bond Fund. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Purchasing agent to issue Purchase Orders for this material, subject to the availability of Funds. Recommendation for Resolution Authorizing the Purchase of Asphaltic Concrete from a Metropolitan Dade County Contract FROM Donald W. Cather REFERENCES Director of� P�gw ks ENCLOSURES: Resolution It is recommended that a resolution be passed authorizing the purchase of approximately 10,000 tons of asphaltic concrete under a Metropolitan Dade County Multiple Contract from General Asphalt Company Inc., Brewer Company of Florida Inc. and Pan American Construction Co. at a total estimated cost of $226,000. The Department of Public Works has requested the purchase of approximately 10,000 tons of asphaltic concrete hot mix to be used to make routine and emergency street repairs in the pavement and base of streets within the City of Miami as required. Metropolitan Dade County receives bids and awards contracts for material on a County wide basis which enables cities and other governmental agencies to receive more advantageous prices and also save the cost of advertising and mailing. The material is available on a Metropolitan Dade County Contract Bid No. 9205/l/13/84-C.W. on a multiple award made to General Asphalt Company Inc., Brewer Company of Florida Inc. and -Pan American Construction Co. The effective period of the contract is February 1, 1983 through January 31, 1984. Purchase orders made under this bid will only be effective during the time period that the contract is in force. Purchase orders are to be issued to the lowest bidder after adjustments are made for escalation/de-escalation and distance to the plant site. The present low bidder is Pan American Construction Co. Funds for the purchase of the asphaltic concrete are available in the departmental operating budget and general obligation bond fund. Funds are available at a total estimated cost of $226,000.
