FOR FURNISHING ONE (1) RLMOTE- CONTROLLED MOBILE INVESTIGATION UNIT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF POLICE AT A TOTAL COST OF $20,620.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT TRUST FUND; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received August 4, 1983 for the furnishing of One (1) Remote - Controlled Mobile Investigation Unit to the Department of Police; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 29 potential suppliers and 2 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Law Enforcement Trust Fund; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of Police for the purpose of providing increased safety for personnel and citizens in the disposal of bombs and other explosive devices; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Police recommend that the bid received from Pedsco, Ltd. be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bid; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The August 4, 1983 bid of Pedsco, Ltd. for furnishing One (1) Remote -Controlled Mobile Investigation Unit to the Department of Police at a total cost of $20,620.00 is hereby accepted with funds therefor hereby allocated from the Law Enforce- ment Trust Fund. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Purchasing Agent to issue a Purchase Order for this equipment. "-' Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received on August 4, 1983, for furnishing the Department of Police one Remote Controlled Mobile Investigation Unit (Robot). This Remote Controlled Mobile Investigation Unit (Robot) will be used in connection with the new bomb transport trailer to handle bombs and other explosive devices. This type of unit would increase the safety of the officers handling bombs and other explosive devices. This is a regular purchase of new equipment to be used by the newly formed Bomb Squad in the Special Investigation Section of the Department of Police. The funds would be made available from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund. Police Single Purchase New equipment required to increase safety of personnel handling explosive devices. 091 K TOTAL BID $19,901.42 $20,620.00 The Law Enforcement Trust Fund The low bid of S.A.S. of America, Inc. is not recommended for the following reasons: 1) Failure to meet specifications which require wheels (vehicle offered is on tracks) and U.S. standard Closed Circuit T.V. equip- ment (unit is set up for U.K. standards) 2) The product's performance record with Metropolitan Dade County has been unreliable 3) Repair parts are not readily available. The bid of Pedsco, Ltd. meets all specifi- cations and is recommended.
