.1-83-1038 RESOLUTION N0. ~3"'lOS"7i A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING 5175,000 OF FY'83-84 FEDERAL REVEPJUE Sf~ARING FUNDS APPROPRIATED BY PASSAGE ON ORDINANCE N0. 9684 TO MARTIN TECH- NICAL COLLEGE-CAREY BRANCH FOR THE PERIOD FROM DECEMBER 1, 1983 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 1984, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER IPJTO A~REEMEPJT b!ITH THE AFOREMENTIONED AGENCY. WHEREAS, the City Commission has indicated its intent to support certain social service programs providing service to residents of the City of Miami through an allocation of Federal Revenue Sha-°ing funds; and 41HEP,EAS, funds have been previously appropriated by Ordinance PJo. 9684 to accomplish this purpose; and WHEREAS, the City Commission passed P1otion No. 83-1066 expressing intent to allocate an amount of 5175,000 to Martin Technical College - Carey Branch for the purpose of providing a computer repairs training project in Model Cities for the period Dc comber 1,1983 - September 30, 1984; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMPIISSION OF THE CITY OF P9IAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. $175,000 of Federal Revenue Sharing funds previously appropriated by Ordinance No. 9684 is hereby allocated to Martin Technical College - Carey Branch for the period December 1,1983 through September 30, 1984. Section 2. The City Tlanager is hereby authorized to enter into agree- ments with the aforementioned agency to implement a computer repairs train- ing project in P1ode1 Cities, subject to the conditions and limitations contained herein. To that effect, enclosed therewith, please find a copy of the letter sent to the President of Martin Technical College requesting an affidavit to clarify my position, that in no way, I have ever been involved in such affairs, and to reveal the identity of the parties involved in order to prove my absence from that matter. In what it may refer to my personal attitude, I'd like to insist in ..~ my disengagement from such affair by expressing that in the local media of November, 1981, Mrs. Carey made it very clear that she was not endorsing me in that election. - Mrs. Carey left a copy of her proposal in my office which I still keep in my files. I think her project is most laudable and positive because it represents a continuation of our struggle against unem- ployment and vocational rehabilitation. n 83-108`7 e. p n r.... It has always been, and will always be, my most important priority to protect the confidence my constituents have always entrusted me and which I have never defrauded. For more than 12 years I have been involved in local private education, ar~d everybody knows it has been my main source of income, which I have always taken care of with pride. And these have been my personal activities much before I entered the City of Miami Commission. I hope your hospitality will contribute to clarifying my information. An affidavit from you where it is stated that I am not in any wav c~nnectPCl or associated with its centers of Miami, Homestead, Liberty City or any other location, except with the Hialeah branch which is a joint venture of Lincoln-r4arti and Martin Technical College. 2. Copy of the Articles of Incorporation, names of the members of the Board of Directors, instructors, and/or any other interested parties in other centers, which could contribute to clarify that I am not linked in any way to any of them. 3. Certification that I am not in any manner involved with your new venture in Garces Commercial College. 4. Specifically, in reference to the mentioned Martin Technical College/Carey Branch, I would like to make available to the public, if possible, the names of all directors, shareholders, instructors, and/or other parties involved in the operation and administration, so that there will be absolutely no doubt that there is no relation- ship with that center in my part. Also, at the request of a journalist, I would like for you to make available a copy of the document which justifies the agreement with the Lincoln-Marti Hialeah Branch. Funding for P1artin Technical College - Carey Branch REFERENCES City Commission Meeting Of November 18, 1983 ENCLOSURES It is recommended that the City Commission adopt a resolution allocating $175,000 of FY'83-84 Federal Revenue Sharing Funds to Ptartin Technical College - Carey Branch. At the City Commission meeting of November 16, 1983, the City Commission approved Motion No. 83-1066 which expressed intent to allocate $175,000 of FY'83-84 Federal Revenue Sharing Funds to Martin Technical College - Carey Branch, for the purpose of providing a computer repairs training project in the Model Cities area for City residents.
