S, 13— 066 A RESOLUTION AILOCATING TIf SUM OF $20,000 FROM 5PLCIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENT FUND, IN SUPPORT OF THE SALESMEN ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA'S "II INTER-AMERICAN CONFERFNCF OF SALESMEN" 10 BE 11EI.1) DECEMRER 14, 15, AND 16, 1983 IN THE CITY OF MIAMI. P WHEREAS, last year the Salesmen Association of the State of Florida sponsored the "I Inter -American Conference of Salesmen which was attended by snore than 100 delegates from 5 Latin American countries, serving as a vehicle for the promotion of the City of Miami as a center for international trade; and WHEREAS, the said Conference was organized in a way that insured that local participants could meet with the foreign delegates, thus providing a channel for new contacts and paving the way for new business opportunities; and WHEREAS, the seminars and workshop of said Conference were monitored by staff members of the City's Department of International Trade Promotion who also participated in them; and WHEREAS, the said Conference provided the means to identify specific trade opportunities for both foreign and domestic companies; and WHEREAS, given the Association's success in organizing and conducting its first conference, and in recognition of its signficance as an instrument for the promotion of the City of Miami as a renter for international trade. the Department of International Trade Promotion recommends that funding be provided to the Salesmen Association of the State of Florida at last year's level of $20,000; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF NOV 18 1983 RESOLUTION Not-"' � REMARKS. Diaz -Pout Direct ;�Ei Department of International ENCLOSURES Trade Promotion This is in reference to the Salesmen Association of the State of Florida request for a City of Miami grant of $35,000. to fund the II Inter -American Conference of Salesmen; scheduled to take place on December 14, 15, and 16 of 1983. In making its recommendation the Department of International Trade Promotion would like to mention the Association's success in planning and conducting last year's conference. The I Inter -American Conference of Salesmen was attended by more than one hundred delegates from five Latin American countries, serving as a vehicle for the promotion of our City as a center for international trade. The event was organized in a way -that insured that local participants could meet -wiLh Lii%-- fureign delegates; providing a channel for new contacts and paving the way for new business opportunities. In addition, the seminars and workshop which were monitored by staff members of the D.I.T.P. who also participated in them, provided the means to identify specific trade opportunities for both foreign and domestic companies.
