The Department of Public Works recommends
adoption of the resolution accepting the
bid received December 2, 1983 of Aaiem
Construction Corporation in the amount of
$265,500; and authorizing the City Manager
to enter into a contract on behalf of the
City of Miami for MODIFICATIONS TO FORMER
FIRE STATION NO. 16 - STRESS SIMULATOR.
Bids were received December 2, 1983 for renovating the former
fire station and rebuilding to accommodate the stress simula-
tor recently acquired for Police Department training. Work
includes structural modifications, added air conditioning
and ventilation, and miscellaneous interior improvements.
As reflected in the tabulation of bids, the $265,500 bid
of Aaiem Construction Corporation is the lowest responsible
bid for the base bid of the proposal.
Funds have been allocated under the Police Department budget
for the estimated amount of the contract, for project expense,
and for such items as advertising, testing laboratories, and
postage.
Eleven contractors picked up plans and specifications; two
contractors submitted bids, one of which is a Hispanic
minority contractor. The engineer's estimate was $250,000.
