HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-0431M 3-84-263 3/20/84 rr/D-5 RESOLUTION NO. 84-431 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT THE PROPOSED DONATION OF PUBLIC EDUCATIONAL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS IN THE VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY $8,000 FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES FROM THE TOBACCO INSTITUTE FOR THE PURPOSE OF EXPANDING PUBLIC FIRE SAFETY AWARENESS THROUGH EDUCATION. WHEREAS, in the United States during 1982, there were 6,020 civilian fire deaths, 2,538,000 fires that were attended by fire departments, and an estimated $6,4301000,000 in property that was lost to fire; and WHEREAS, public education has proved to be an effective method of reducing these tragic statistics; and WHEREAS, the Tohacco Institute has generously offered to assist in these educational endeavors by donating the following equipment and materials for use by the City of Miami Department. of Fire, Rescue and Inspection services: 1. Complete V. H. S. System 2. Two- Telex Caramate Auto Focus Projectors 3. Port -a -sound #231 Public Address Systems 4. Supplemental Learn Not To Burn Materials 5. 3,000 High Rise Fire Safety Folders 6. AEL Program - 35 1411 Camera Cannon 7. "In Case of Fire" Curriculum for Mentally Retarded Adults 8. Films: "Cry for the Children" "Fire in 1117" "Hot Liquid Burns" "Learn Not To Burn" 9. Fire Safety Package for Teachers, Counselors, and Advisors 10. Project Burn Prevention Community Outreach Program 11. "You are the Key" Motel Fire Safety Package 12. New Puppet Theater; CITY COMMISSION MEETING OF APR 5 19G4 -43' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept the donation of public educational equipment and materials with an approximate value of `B4O00 from the Tobacco Institute for use by the City of Miami Departme_,t of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services for the purpose of expanding public fire safety awareness through education. Brice, Director For City Commission Meeting _ Department of Fire, Rescue of April 5, 1984 and Inspection Services ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that a Resolution be passed accepting the donation of equipment and materials in the approxi- mate value of $ 8,000.00 to the Depart- ment of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services from the Tobacco Institute for the purpose of expanding public fire safety a�.rareness through public edu- cation. V The Tobacco Institute has selected the City of Miami Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services as one of forty (40) departments nation wide to receive equipment and materials to be utilized in public fire safety education programs. The attached prioritized list of equipment and materials was prepared by our Public Education Section at the request of Mr. Peter Sparber of the Tobacco Institute. The donation of these items is a part of a campaign by the Tobacco Institute to create good will by assisting with the delivery of public fire safety education messages.
