SUBJECT RESOLUTION - AUTHORIZING
CITY MANAGER TO ADVERTISE
FOR BIDS FOR SALE OF SURPLUS
FILL MATERIAL ON VIRGINIA KEY
`ROM Donald W. Cather, Director REFERENCES:
Department of -Public Works
ENCLOSURES: City Commission Meeting
.'`.: Agenda - January 12, 1984
It is recommended that the proposed Resolution
be adopted by the City Commission_ at it's meeting
for January 12, 1984 whereby the City Commission
will authorize the City Manager to advertise for
bids for the sale of surplus fill material on
Virginia Key and further authorizing that during
the 1984 calendar year the City Manager may sell
this :material to interested buyers at the highest
price bid if a price is received of at least $1.50
a cubic yard.
Occasionally the City of Miami is requested by contractors and
other interested buyers to sell a part of the surplus fill material
stored on Virginia Key. Often it is impossible to complete the
commission action and bidding processes required for the sale in
order to meet the buyers schedule.
At this time the Metropolitan Dade County Contractor scheduled to
widen the Rickenbacker Causeway has offered to buy 50,000 c.y. of
this material. in order to facilitate this sale for the causeway
widening and expedite future sales of this nature, the proposed
resolution provides for the City Commission to authorize the City
Manager to advertise for bids for the sale of surplus fill material
on Virginia Key and further authorizes that during the 1984 calendar
year the City Manager may sell this material to interested buyers
at the highest price bid if a price is received of at least $1.50
a cubic yard.
