A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $5i500 FROM THE 1983-B4 OPERATING
BUDGET AS FOLLOWSi $2,987 FROM THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT AND $2i510 FROM THE
SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT; TO COVER THE COST
OF IN=KIND SERVICES FOR POLICE AND
SANITATION SUPPORT IN CONNECTION WITH THE
PARADE HELD ON JANUARY 129 19841 IN
CELEBRATION OF THE MIAMI HURRICANES
VICTORY AT THE ORANGE BOWL.
WHEREAS, the Miami Hurricanes won the Orange Bowl Game
on January 2, 1984 and with it the acclamation of college
coaches across the country; and
WHEREAS, the UPI and API voted the Miami Hurricanes as
the number one team in the nation; and
WHEREAS, City of Miami residents are proud and happy of
their area football team's national victory; and
WHEREAS, a parade was held in downtown Miami on
January 12, 1984 honoring the Miami Hurricanes; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission approved Motion No. 84-4,
on January 5, 1984 authorizing the expenditure of funds to
provide the necessary in -kind City services for Police and
Sanitation support for said parade;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. An amount not to exceed $5,500 is hereby
allocated from the 1983-84 Operating Budget as follows:
$2,987 Police Department and $2,510 Solid Waste Department,
to cover the costs of in -kind City services for Police and
Sanitation support in connection with the January 12, 1984
Parade in honor of the Miami Hurricanes victory at the Orange
Bowl,

January 12, 1984, in celebration of the
Miami Hurricanes victory at the Orange
Bowl. Monies will be allocated from the
Special Programs and Accounts, Contin-
gency fund.
On January 5, 1984, the City Commission adopted Motion No. 84-4
authorizing and directing the City Manager to allocate sufficient
funds to cover in -kind services in connection with•a victory
parade honoring the Miami Hurricanes for winning the national
championship.
The parade was viewed as a tremendous success with over 50,000
spectators cheering the Hurricanes and thousands watching the
festivities on television.
It is, therefore, recommended that Motion No. 84-4 be ratified and
confirmed authorizing the City Manager to allocate funds in an
amount not to exceed $5,500 to cover the cost of in -kind services
for Police ($2,987) and sanitation ($2,510).
