The Department of Computers is requesting approval for the procurement of an on-line Disk Pack Management System and an on- line Job Scheduler and Monitoring System from B & L Associates, Incorporated, the only known source. Both the on-line Disk Pack Management and on-line Job Scheduling Systems are the only packages that are compatible with the B7900 Computer and can automatically interface with the current Tape Management System under a DMSII Data Base environment. The on-line Disk Pack Management System will be used on the Burroughs B7900 Computers to provide tape backup of important file and remove unused files to tape. Backup and reclamation functions may be performed independently or together. Criteria for reclamation can be specified at any directory level. This system minimizes tape usage by merging tapes to eliminate "dead" files and has extensive reporting capabilities as well as on-line ability to scan all backed -up archival files for ease of identification and recovery. 84 -151 p V Howard V.
