HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-0209J-84-179 2/24/84 rr/D-6 RESOLUT ION NO.fl' 4-209 , A RESOLUTION STRONGLY URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES TO ADOPT LEG [SLAT ION FACILITATING THE ENTRY INTO THIS COUNTRY OF CUBANS WHO HAVE FLED THEIR HOMELAND AND WHO ARE ENROUTE TO HE UNITED WITH FAMILY MEMBERS LIVING IN THE UNITED SPATES OF AMERICA BUT WHO HAVE HAI) TO DELAY THEIR JOURNEY BY WAITING IN COSTA RICA AND OTHER COUNTRIES; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF THIS RESOLUI ION TO THE HEREIN NAMED OFFICIALS. WHEREAS, there are 885 Cuban families living in exile in Costa Rica; and WHEREAS, the vast majority of these persons have family members residing in the Miami area; and WHEREAS, President Luis Alberto Monge-Alvarez of Costa Rica has expressed support for action by the U.S. Government to facilitate the entry of these persons into this country; NOW, THEREFORE, BE If RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Congress of the United States of America is hereby strongly urged to adopt legislation facilitating the entry into this country of Cubans who have fled their homeland and who are enroute to be united with family members living in the United States of America but who have had to delay their journey by waiting in Costa Rica and other countries. Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to President Reagan, President Luis Alberto Monge-Alvarez of Costa Rica, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and members of the Congressional Delegation representing any part of Dade County.
