The Miami Police Department has selected Officer Oscar Tejeda
as the Most Outstanding Officer of the Month. for January
1984.
Last month, during only 18 working days, Officer Tejeda had
21 felony arrests, 9 felony assists and 6 misdemeanor
apprehensions.
On one occasion, while on patrol, Officer Tejeda stopped a
vehicle for a routine check. Preliminary investigation
revealed the driver had no drivers license. While in
conversation with the driver, Officer Tejeda noticed he
was very nervous and preoccupied with the trunk of his car.
After checking inside the trunk, Officer Tejeda discovered
a Ruger .22 cal. pistol with a homemade silencer screwed
into the barrel. Taking further initiative, Officer Tejeda
contacted homicide which revealed the following: the offender
had four aliases, was on probation for armed robbery, and the
firearm that was confiscated was stolen. The offender was
placed under arrest and charged with No Valid Drivers License
Possition of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with a
Silencer and Obstructing Justice by Giving False Information.
On another occasion, Officer Tejeda and his partner received
a call reference a shooting in the southwest section of Miami.
Upon arriving at the location, both officers were confronted
by the victim who gave them a description of a white male who
shot at him while he was getting out of his car. After
searching the area the officers found a possible suspect and
obtained positive identification by the victim. The officers
continued their search for the weapon used and found it beneath
the victims car. Further investigation revaa ].ed t-1-i- the
offender had threatened the victim's life -the previous
day. The offender was then arrested and charged with Attempted
Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a
Felony and Possession of a Firearm with the Serial Number
removed.

Several weeks later Officer Tejeda and his partner received a
call reference a prowler. Upon arriving they were advised
by the complainant that an unknown man had knocked on her
front door, threatened her life and then fled. The officers
were searching the property and they observed the offender
running out of the back door. The officers apprehended the
offender and found a gold medallion, which belonged to the
victim, and qualudes. The offender was arrested and charged
with Burglary, in his pockets, Possession of Controlled
Substance and Resisting Arrest without Violence.
Officer Tejeda, 22, has been a member of the Miami Police
Department two years and assigned to Patrol. He is a
dedicated officer and the recipient of seven commendations
including one personal citation from the Chief of Police.
Please advise this office of the date and time of the City
Commission's presentation of the Certificates of Appreciation
to Officer Tejeda.

of the Year"

In accordance with APM-9-78, the 1983 "Outstanding Employees of
the Year" have been selected and it is hereby requested that a
presentation be scheduled for the March 8th City Commission
meeting.
As indicated in APM-9-78, the selected employees are to be
presented with a plaque and a certificate of commendation by the
Mayor. The employees to receive the plaque and certificate of
