HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-0285►;-224 t A RESOLUTION APPROVING IN PRINCIPLE, THE EAST LITTLE HAVANA TASK FORCE FOR AN AREA GENERALLY RECOMMENDATIONS, BOUNDED BY NW 7TH STREET ON THE NORTH, SW 8TH STREET ON THE SOUTH, THE MIAMI RIVER/I-95 ON THE EAST OF AND 12TH AVENUE ON WHICH IS ATTACHED THE WEST, A COPY HERETO AND MADE A PART HEREOF. WHEREAS, the East Little Havana is a vital component of Little Havana Target Area and the City of Miami, and WHEREAS, this area, while currently characterized by business disinvestment and neighborhood deterioration, has the potential to attract investment and people due to its proximity to Downtown Miami, Brickell Avenue, the Port of Miami, Miami International Airport, other major employment centers and rapid transit stations; and WHEREAS, some of the projects contained herein are underway or implemented forthwith as funds are readily available while implementation of other projects will necessitate identifying funding sources; and WHEREAS, the comprehensive strategies contained in the document will provide the foundation for an extensive area: revitalization and redevelopment undertaking;' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Commission approves in principle the East Little Havana Task Force Recommendations for an area generally bounded by NW 7th Street on the north, SW 8th Street on the south, the Miami River/I-95 on the East and 12th Avenue on the �e west, substantially in the form of the attached hereto. Section 2. The Commission directs the City Manager to proceed to implement the funded recommendations and to pursue identifying funding sources for the unfunded projects and report COMMISSION CITYMEETING back to the Commission regarding same. Section 4. The Commission delegates the oversight monitoring function to the East Little Havana Committee and directs the City Manager to work in cooperation with this body to provide for the effective administration and implementation of the recommended projects and programs. The Planning Department provided technical assistance to the East Little Havana Task Force in terms of providing data and organizing the recommendations comprehensively. The EastCLittle Havana Task Force also received input from ether City, State Departments and agencies as well as community organizations and the general public. Funds are not currently available to implement every project proposed. Also, many recommendations fall outside the. City responsbilities.
