A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE SEVENTH
ANNUAL CALLE OCHO OPEN HOUSE FESTIVAL
WHICH IS TO BE HELD MARCH 4, 1984,
CLOSING CERTAIN STREETS TO THROUGH
VEHICULAR TRAFFIC DURING SPECIFIED
DATES AND HOURS AND ESTABLISHING A
PEDESTRIAN MALL, SAID STREET CLOSING
SUBJECT TO ISSUANCE OF PERMITS BY
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE,
RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES DEPART-
MENT; AND FURTHER ESTABLISHING THE
AREA PROHIBITED TO RETAIL PEDDLERS
DURING THE PERIOD OF THE EVENT.
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana has been granted
assistance from the City of Miami in connection with the Seventh
Annual Calle Ocho Open House Festival to be held March 4, 1984,
by Resolution No. 84-166 on February 9, 1984;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. In order to effectuate safe passage and establish
a temporary pedestrian mall, during the Seventh Annual Calle Ocho
Open House Festival the following streets are hereby closed to
through vehicular traffic on during the dates and hours specified
below, such closing of streets being subject to the issuance of
permits by the Police Department and the Fire, Rescue and Inspection
Services Departments:
(a) S.W. 8 Street from 27 Avenue to 12 Avenue
Sunday, March 4, 1984 - 6 AM to 10 PM
(b) S.W. 8 Street from Beacom Boulevard to 5 Avenue
S.W. 5 Avenue to 26 Road
S.W. 26 Road to 13 Street
S.W. 13 Street to 10 Avenue
S.W. 10 Avenue to 8 Street
Saturday, March 3, 1984 - 7 PM to 10 PM
(c) All streets and avenues intersecting the areas
listed above
such closing of streets being subject to the issuance of permits
by the Police Department and the Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services
Department. Said permit from the Police Department is to be issued
only upon the full approval of the Police Chief after giving all due
consideration to the safety and traffic needs of residents, businesses

and religious institutions in the area for entering and crossing
through said arterials and upon the favorable exercise of the City
Manager's judgment predicated upon all factors set forth herein.
Section 2. Pursuant to the provisions of Ordinance No. 8851,
enacted September 28, 1978, all retail peddlers' occupational
licenses issued under the provisions of Chapter 31 of the City Code,
as amended, will not be valid in the following designated area on
March 4, 1984, during the hours from 10 AM to 11 PM:
(a) On S.W. 8 Street from 27 Avenue to 12 Avenue
(b) All streets and avenues intersecting the area
listed above.

It is recommended that in connection with the
Calle 8 Festival the following streets be
closed on March 3 and March 4, 1984 to insure
the safety of the pedestrians attending these
activities:
(a) S.W. 8 Street from 27 Avenue to 12 Avenue
Sunday, March 4, 1984 - 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
(b) S.W. 8 Street from Beacom Boulevard to 5 Avenue
S.W. 5 Avenue to 26 Road
S.W. 26 Road to 13 Street
S.W. 13 Street to 10 Avenue
S.W. 10 Avenue to 8 Street
Saturday, March 3, 1984 - 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Kiwanis Club of Little Havana will be holding their Ninth
Calle 8 A.K. Race on March 3, 1984. The Police Department has
approved the designated street closure for both the A.K. Race
and the Calle 8 event.
The City Commission, by Motion No. 84-207 of February 16, 1984
authorized the necessary closure of streets as in previous
years.
Therefore, this department recommends that by the attached
resolution, the City Commossion approve the closure of these
streets in order to facilitate these events.
