A RESOLUTION HONORING THE CIV[C-MINDED
MEMBERS 01' "DADE'S EMPLOY THE_ HANDICAPPED
COMMITTEE" FOR THFIR CONTINUING EFFORT ON
BEHALF 11F FHE HAN1)ICAPPFD CI T ILENS OF
THIS COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, the President and the Congress of the United
States, and the United Nations, have proclaimed the period
1983-1992 as the D(�cade of Disabled Persons; and
WHEREAS, over 17% of the citizens of this community are
handicappers and desire to participate fully in the economic
and social fabric_ of the community and would contribute
greatly to this community by their full participation; and
WHEREAS, the International Year of Disabled Persons of
1981 and the Nat innal Year of Disabled Persons of 1982 have
given impetus to the puhlic's recognition of the abilities,
needs, and rights of disabled citizens; and
WHEREAS, a great deal more needs to be done to maintain
the current momentum toward changing attitudes; expanding
opportunities in and access to employment, education,
LransporLaton, housing, recreation and cultural activities;
and hastening the removal of architectural and environmental
harriers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The civic -minded members of "Dade's Employ
the Handicapped Committee" are hereby honored for their
continuing effort on behalf of the handicapped citizens of
this community.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of March , 1984.
