SUBJECT: Appointments to Fill Vacancies
/ on Heritage Conservation Board n
i
Follow -Up
FROM: a REFERENCES:
.Se odriguez, Director
Planning Department
ENCLOSURES:
It is recommended that two members be
anointed to fill vacancies on the
Heritage Conservation board based upon
names and qualifications submitted to the
City Clerk on or before march 27, 1984.
The Heritage Conservation Board currently han two vacancies which
must be scheduled for appointment. One of the vacancies is due
to the expiration of the term of Charlcs Chcjse (restoration
architect). The Lecond vacancy ha: been created by the removal
of Lola Bohn (attorney), pur.Guant to Section 62-71 (e) of Article
VII of Chiptcr 62 of the i,t: ro;n i City Cod(".
The City C2.erk, advertised for nominations to the Board on
March 6, 1984, and a deadline for receipt of nominations was set
for March 27, 1984.
It is requested that these appointments be scheduled on the City
Commission meeting of April 5, 1984.
The Heritage Conservation Ordinance requires that persons
appointed to the Board represent the various special professional
training, experience, and interests required to make informed and
equitable decisions concerning conservation and protection of the
physical environment. Five persons submitted applications to the
City Clerk for appointment.to fill vacancies on the Board. Four
of these persons meet the qualifications for Board membership.
Howard L. Dutkin, who applied for the position of Restoration
Architect, does not appear to qualify. Although he is a
registered architect, his application fails to demonstrate any
restoration experience, as required. Therefore, his name should
not be considered.

For the past nine years, I have been actively engaged in academic training
in the subjects of historic preservation and architectural history and
have been continuously employed in both fields. As can be seen in my
resume, my work experience has covered all aspects of architectural resto-
ration. Besides paid employment, I have also dedicated a major portion
of my leisure time to volunteer activities in these fields. I also have
