CITY 00 MIAMI, FFLONIOA , —

TO: Howard V. Gary DATt: May 31 1984 FILL:
City Manager 4
SUBJECT: Resolution Allocating Funds to the
Puerto Rican Opportunity Center
FRoM: Dena Spillman, Director REFERENCES: City Commission Agenda
Department of Community Development June 14, 1984
ENCLOSURES: One (1
It is recommended that the City Commission
adopt a resolution which allocates $8,000
to the Puerto Rican Opportunity Center, Inc.,
for the period February 1, 1984 through June
30, 1984, to provide for administration of
the Agency's Food and Shelter Program.
At the May 10, 1984 meeting, the City Commission adopted Resolution 84-518
which allocated $3,000 to the Puerto Rican Opportunity Center to provide
support to the Agency's food and shelter program from February 1, 1984
through April 15, 1984. Also, Motion 84-519 was adopted, which expressed
the Commission's intent to allocate an additional $5,000 to the Agency to
continue the program through May 1984.
PROC's proposal states that the total $8,000 would enable the Agency to
operate the shelter through June 30, 1984, while they await an allocation
of funds from the Federal Eme ency Management Agency (FEMA). According to
PROC, it is possible that the'18,000 of City funds may be reimbursed from
the FEMA grant. PROC's shelter was started with a grant of $13,091 from the
Emergency Food and Shelter Board Program, appropriated through the United Way
of Dade County. The funds requested from the City would cover the administra-
tive costs of the program.
The attached Resolution amends Section 1 and 2 of Resolution 84-518 by increas-
ing the allocation to $8,000 for the period February 1, 1984 - June 30, 1984,
and authorizes the City Manager to amend the City's 1983-84 contract with
PROC to include this allocation.
It is recommended these funds be allocated from the General Fund, Special
Programs and Accounts: Contingent Fund.
