WHEREAS, reliable and effective telephone dictation equipment is vital to the operation of the Police Communication Section, which is responsible to record incoming emergency calls and subsequent dispatch responses to patrols; and WHEREAS, there is a currently effective State of Florida Contract No. 600-52-83-1 with Lanier Business Products, Inc. for furnishing Central Dictation Systems and equipment, state-wide; and WHEREAS, said Firm's Contract constitutes a responsible and responsive bid that meets the City's specifications for this herein equipment; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department I j of Police for the purpose of replacing eight -year old dictation i equipment that is too costly to repair; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1983-84 Operating Budget; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Depart- ment of Police recommend that the purchase from Lanier Business Products, Inc. be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. T q P constant source of problems, i.e. : Master tape recorder requests number approximately 10 per week. This is a method of attempting to duplicate an officers report after an input failure. Tape life ($2.20 each) is virtually non existent as the present recorders and playback devices frequently destroy these expensive tapes. Of the present eight (8) playback transcribers all have been repaired at least once in the past six (6) months. Two of the machines have been taken out of service due to extensive problems. Of those in daily use all require insertion of the tape and then firmly pressing down the cassette cover, a two hand procedure. Failure to do so causes the machine to be inoperative.
