HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-0667s RESOLUTION No. A RESOLUTION DEOLARINO THAT THE BOUNDARIES OP BAST LITTLE HAVANA ARE THE WESTERLY RIGHT-OF-Y W1AY ' LiNt1 `OV THE, METRO RAPID TRANSIT RIGHT -OP - WAY ON THE EAST, THE MIAMI RIVER ON THE FORTH, SOUTHWEST 8TH STREET ON THE SOUTH, AND NORTHWEST/SOUTHWEST 17TH AVENUE ON THE WEST. WHEREAS, East Little Havana is a vital component of the Little Havana Target area and the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, portions of this area are currently characterized by business disinvestment, neighborhood deterioration, and a shortage of parking facilities and have the potential to attract investment and people due to their proximity to Downtown Miami, Brickell Avenue, the Civic Center/Hospital Complex and Rapid Transit Station; and WHEREAS this area is adjacent to the Miami River and Jose Marti Park which provide opportunities for the area's revitaliza- tion; and WHEREAS, the Little Havana Community Center provides cultural activities for the City residents; and WHEREAS, the Latin Quarter district has the potential to attract visitors and tourists to the area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The boundaries of East Little Havana are hereby declared to be the westerly right-of-way line of the metro rapid transit right-of-way on the East, the Miami River on the North, Southwest 8th Street on the South and Northwest/Southwest 17th Avenue on the West. Gary bAT[: June 5, 1984 FILM FROM: City Manager SUBJECT: Boundaries of Gast Little Havana Sergio Rodriguez, Director REFERENCES: City Commission Planning Department ENCLOSURES: Meeting of June 14, 1984 It is recommended that the Commission Compression declare that the boundaries of East Little Havana are Metrorail, Miami River, NW/SW 17th Avenue and SW 8th Street, per the attached resolution. On April 5, 1984, the Commission passed Motion 84-372 which dealt with the proposed Southeast Overtown and East Little Havana bond issues in concept and described the boundaries of East Little Havana. By means of this resolution, the motion is formalized and reflects City Commission policy on the East Little Havana boundaries. SR/JWM/dr ATTACHMENTS
