HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-0738J-84-576 6/15/84 RESOLUTION NO. 84-7 38 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A RENTAL REI-IABILI- TATION PROGRAM GRANT FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (IIUD) FOR $696,800 TO INCREASE THE SUPPLY OF AFFORDABLE, STANDARD HOUSING FOR LOWER INCOME FAMILIES; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT THE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION TO THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AI4D URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR APPROVAL. WHEREAS, Section 17 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 establishes a program known as the Rental Rehabilitation Program to increase the supply of affordable, standard housing for lower income families; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is experiencing a severe rental housing shortage affordable to lower income families; and WHEREAS, subject to passage of the Appropriations Bill the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated $696,800 of Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant funds to the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, a Rental Rehabilitation Program description is required to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by July 9, 1984. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager, as chief administrative officer for the City of Miami, is hereby authorized to accept the Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for $696,800. Section 2. The City P7anager is further authorized to submit the required program description to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Gary DATE: June 13, 1984 F1LF: City Manager SUBJECT: Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant $696,800 FROM: Dena Spillman, Director REFERENCES: City Commission Agenda Department of Community Development June 28, 1984 ENCLOSURES: It is recommended that the City Commission approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept, subject to passage of the Appropriations Bill, a Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for $696,800 to increase the supply of affordable, standard rental housing for lower income families, and further authorizing the City Manager to submit the program description to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for approval. Subject to passage of the Appropriations Bill, the City of Miami has been allocated $696,800 of Rental Rehabilitation Program Grant funds by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition, Section 8 Existing Certificates and/or vouchers will be made available based on a ratio of one for every $5,000 of grant funds. The Rental Rehabilitation Program provides rental rehabilitation grants to units of local government to help support the rehabilitation of privately owned real property to be used for primarily residential rental. purposes. The Program is designed to increase the supply of standard housing units affordable to lower income families.
