HomeMy WebLinkAboutM-84-078621 TO: Howard Gary DATE: July 17, 1984 City Manager SUBJECT: Gusman Cultural Center 19814-85 Season of Events FROM: Roger M. Carlton Director Department of Off —Street Parking During the City Commission meeting of June 14, 1984 a redevelopment program for the Olympia was approved in concept. Related to the Olympia Building redevelopment program was a program to expand utilization of Gusman Cultural Center. During the 1983/34 Fiscal Year Gusman was used for approximately 45 events. Due to the demand created by the "Eight Singular Sensations" season, utilization will increase to in excess of 100 events during Fiscal Year 198i4/35. The season is being produced in—house by the Department of Off —Street Parking and the Director of Gusman Cultural Center, Darrell Calvin, who was formerly manager of the New Hampshire Performing Arts Center. The total cost of production is approximately $250,000 which includes fees paid to the artists, promotion, and theater costs. Should 50 percent of the 1,850 seat capacity of the theater be sold, the season will break 'even. Any sales above the 50 percent level will generate surplus revenue which will be used to restore the theater, promote additional events in the subsequent seasons and reduce Gusman Cultural Center's financial obligation to the City.
