SUBJECT: GOVERNMENT CENTER
GARAGE DISCUSSION
During their July 13, 19814 meeting, the Off -Street Parking Board discussed two
items which pertain to the Government Center Garage. The first item is the
construction of a new entrance on N.W. First Street. This entrance will
provide a convenient access point for customers who currently must circle the
block to enter on c'lli Second Street. It is estimated that this project will
increase utilization by approximately 100 cars daily which should increase
revenues by 30,000 annually thereby off setting the project cost in
approximately one year.
The second item pertained to construction of new administrative offices for the
Department of Off -Street Parking. The current offices in 'Municipal Garage
No. 3 (Miami Dade Community College) are inadequate. The first and second
floors of the Government Center Garage are designed for retail space in the
future. This space could be used for the Department's administrative offices.
The Department would pay an equitable rent to the City. With your concurrence
and that of the City Commission, cost estimates could be obtained and a lease
negotiated over the summer for final review by the City Commission in
September.
