WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 29, 1984 for the furnishing of Portable Basketball Backstops, Flooring and Accessory Equipment to the Department of the Conference Center; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 58 potential suppliers and 4 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1980 City of Miami Convention Center and Parking Garage Revenue Bond Fund; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of the Conference Center for the purpose of providing new equip- ment for use in the Convention Center Auditorium for basketball events; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of the Conference Center recommend that the bids received from Robbins, Inc. and Wimer-Stubbs Associates, Inc. be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bids; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIh�1I , hLORIDA: Section 1. Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 29, 1984 for portable basketball floor and backstops for use at the Miami Convention Hall. Invitations were mailed to 57 potential bidders of which 3 were Black minority and 8 were Hispanic American minority companies. Seven no bids were also received. This is a regular purchase of new equipment to be used at the Miami Convention Center by the Operations Division for use in the Auditorium. TYPE OF PURCHASE: Single Purchase REASON: New equipment required for use in the Auditorium for basketball events POTENTIAL BIDDERS: 58 BIDS RECEIVED: 4 TABULATION: Attached FrTNnS: 1980 City of Miami Convention Center and Parking CaragP Revenue Bond Fund. MINORITY PARTICIPATION: Bid Invitations were sent to three (3) Black and nine (9) Hispanic firms engaged in the sales or manu- facture of flooring and sports equipment, as located in the follow- ing sources: 1) Metropolitan Dade County Minority Vendor Directory 2) Bidder Applications on file in Purchasing 3) Previous bids for similar commodities 4) Published directories (Thomas Register. and Florida Contractors Register) The only minority Bid was that of Continental Exports, Inc. (a Hispanic firm) as indicated in the tabulation. Two (2) other Hispanic firms submitted "no bids." BID EVALUATION: The bid consisted of four (4) items, two of which were component spares to the major pieces of equipment, and therefor required to be of the same manufacture. Thus, a split award of Items 1 and 2, although possible, is not recommended.
