HomeMy WebLinkAboutO-09869- J-84-480 5/21/84 rr/D-02 1 ORDINANCE N9�._99 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SUBSECTIONS (a) AND ( c ) OF SECTION 14-26, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED, BY INCREASING THE COMPOSITION OF THE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY BOARD FROM 17 TO 19 MEMBERS; THE TWO NEW MEMBERS BEING THE MANAGER OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND THE MANAGER OF METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY. WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City of Miami that close liaison exist between the Downtown Development Authority and the administrations of the City of Miami and Metroplitan Dade County; and WHEREAS, on April 14, 1984, the Board of the Downtown Development Authority resolved to improve liaison and cooperation with the administrations of the City of Miami and Metropolitan Dade County by increasing its membership by adding two positions to be filled by the Managers of the City of Miami and Metroplitan Dade County; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Subsections (a) and (c) of Section 14-26 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, are hereby further amended in the following particulars:l "Sec. 14-26. Downtown development author- ity board --Composition; appointment and terms of office of members; filing of vacancies. (a) The affairs of the authority shall be under the direct supervision and control of a board consisting of seVeRteeR-E4;3 nineteen (19) members appointed by the city commission. i Words and/or figures stricken through shall be deleted. Underscored words end/or figures shall be added. Remaining provisions are now in effect and remain unchanged. Asterisks indicate omitted and unchanged material. C 11 (c) The board shall be constituted as follows: (1) The mayor shall be chairman of the board and the seveRteankh nineteenth member. At any time the mayo elects to reliquish his position as chairman and so signifies such election in writing, the position of chairman will be filled by one (1) of the fourteen (141, members who shall have been appointed to the board under the provisions of paragraphs (2) through (5) hereof. The position will be Filled in accordance with the rules of procedure as duly adopted by the board. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, insofar as they are in conflict, are hereby repealed. Section 3. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase, or word of this ordinance is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this ordinance shall not be affected. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Commission adopt an ordinance amending section 14-26 of the code of the City of Miami to increase the composition of the DDA Board from 17 to 19 members; the two new members being the Managers of the City and Metropolitan Dade County. BACKGROUND On July 14, 1984, the DDA Board adopted the enclosed resolution requesting the City Commission to expand the DDA Board from 17 to 19 members. It was felt that by having the managers o` the city and county on the board that liaison and relations with the two administrations would be enhanced and that better understanding and mutually beneficial information exchanges would occur.
