Gary City Manager FROW Herbert Breslow Chief of Police GATE 2 0 1984 '"LE° TFC 12-8 SUBJECT: Resolution for Informational Traffic Signs Leading to the Miami Convention Center REFERENCES: Complex ENCLOSUREft It is recommended that the City of Miami Commission adopt: A resolution authorizing the City Manager to negotiate with the State Department of Trans- portation for the placement of informational signs on designated portions of Interstate Highway 95, Biscayne Boulevard, and Brickell Avenue, which will direct motorists to the Miami Convention Center Complex and parking facility. In an effort to assist motorists in locating the Miami Con- vention Center, the Police Department is recommending the placement of signs along the four (4) major routes to the complex. These four (4) routes are: north and south on I-95, with exits at S. E. First Avenue and S. E. Second Avenue; north on Brickell Avenue and south on Biscayne Boulevard. At present, there are no signs on any of these routes directing motorists to the Convention Center complex. There are no signs within the Convention Center complex directing motorists to the parking garage. To assist traffic entering Downtown Miami from I-95, signs should be posted at the S. E. First Avenue exit, with other signs along the route directing motorists to Convention Center parking. A sign at the S. E. Second Avenue exit indicating "Convention Center Traffic Right Lane", and more adequate signs in the complex directing traffic to the parking garage, should be erected. To assist traffic southbound on should start at about N. E. 10 tions to the Convention Center. vard, S. E. Second Street and Second Avenue directing motorists . into the parking garage at 100 S. E. Second Street, should also be erected. This would avoid motorists going south '. on S. E. Second Avenue, and into the main entrance at the t; Hyatt. The same type of signs should be employed to direct traffic north on Brickell Avenue. The Florida Department of Transportation has erected signs 1 on State highways that direct motorists to attractions such as horse and dog race tracks and jai -alai frontons. As 3i this courtesy has been extended in the past, it is hoped that the Department of Transportation will erect signs for a public access complex such as the Miami Convention Center. HB:hc r }
