HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-11373-84-944 RESOLUTION NO.- 940di-n A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF APPROXIMATELY 300 SETS OF FIREFIGHTER PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS, FROM CAIRNS AND BROTHERS, INC. UNDER A CURRENTLY EFFECTIVE METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY CONTRACT FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF FIRE, RESCUE AND INSPECTION SERVICES AT A TOTAL PROPOSED COST NOT TO EXCEED $70,000.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE 1984-85 OPERATING BUDGET OF THAT DEPARTMENT; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THESE MATERIALS, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDS. WHEREAS, Protective Clothing, consisting of turnout coats and bunker pants, is vital to the safety of firefighters in the line of duty and thus to the welfare of the citizens of Miami; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida has mandated an upgrade to minimum safety requirements previously set for Protective Clothing; and WHEREAS, there is a currently effective Metropolitan Dade County Contract No. 0077 with Cairns and Brothers, Inc. for furnishing Firefighting Protective Clothing county -wide ; and WHEREAS, the specifications for these materials were developed jointly by Metropolitan Dade County, the City of Miami, and other local governmental entities to meet the new state requirements; and WHEREAS said firm's contract constitutes a responsible and responsive bid that meets the City's requirements for these herein materials; and WHEREAS these materials will be used by the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services for the purpose of replacing worn and substandard gear presently issued to firefighting personnel and to provide new materials to new personnel; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1984-85 Operating Budget; and cm MEMO CIF .11 OCT alp y WHEREAS,' the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services recommend that the purchase from Cairns and Brothers, Inc. be approved; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The purchase of approximately 300 sets of Firefighter Protective Clothing, on an as needed basis from Cairns and Brothers, Inc. under a currently effective Metropolitan Dade County Contract, for the Department of Fire, - i Rescue and Inspection Services at a total proposed cost not to exceed $70,000.00 is hereby approved with funds therefor hereby allocated from the 1984-85 Operating Budget. Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the Purchasing Agent to issue Purchase Orders for these materials, subject to the availability of funds. - PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS loth day of October ,1984. Gary DATE: September 14, 1984 ink, City Manager SUBJECT: Purchase of Fire Fighter Protective Clothing FROM: Kretor ullough, Ch f REFERENc[s: For City Commission Meeting of Fire, Rescu and of October 11, 1984 Inspection Services Department EHe�oauRE:, It is recommended that a resolution be passed authorizing the purchase of Fire Fighter Protective Clothina from Cairns and and Brother, Inc., under the current Dade County Hid No. 0077 (copy attached), at an estimated cost of $60,000 to $70,000 for FY 84-85. Specifications for the attached Dade County Award Sheet were developed through a County -wide committee made up of fire department representatives. The Department of Fire, Rescue and Inspection Services is satisfied that the products offered meet those specifications and are the state-of-the-art available for our personnel. Protective clothing purchased under this agreement would meet the now required state mandated minimum requirements. The initial purchase would replace all existing protective clothing that does not meet this standard. The protective, clothing would be purchased on an as -needed basis through.the life of the contract (contract ends July 31, 1985), and it is anticipated that an initial purchase of approximately 150-160" sets would take place upon passing of the resolution.
