HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-84-1190A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT IN A FORM SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY ATTORNEY, WITH THE CLIPPER PIONEERS INC. FOR PHtJMT1TTOrTAL ACTMITIES WITH THE PURPOSE OF ACKNOWLEDGING AND PROMOTING THIS GROUP'S HISTORIC TIES WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI WITH FUNDS THEREFORE ALLOCATED IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $49500 FROM THE CITY'S SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENT FUND. WHEREAS, the Clipper Pioneers, whose membership is composed of Pan American Airways pilots who opened up international flights from Dinner Key, will be holding its annual convention in Miami October 25-28, 1984 and the Air Line Pilots Association also will be holding its annual meeting in Miami simultaneously; and WHEREAS, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the start of Clipper service from Dinner Key, also the airline's 56th anniversary, and the 30th anniversary of the transfer of the airline's facilities at Dinner Key to the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the staging of a city — sponsored official reception to honor these d13tiguished groups would focus attention on the City's predominance in the history and development of international aviation, and also serve as an initial step in the future establishment of a permanent aviation museum in the Dinner Key area that would become an attraction of worldwide significance to the world's aviation community as well as the r general public; and r WHEREAS, a request for funding in an amount of $4,500 is proposed in the interests of promoting the image of the City of t. Miami's unique role as the major pioneer in the development of international aviation; { NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF TH9 CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; 'x Crff colpm_. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, with the Clipper Pioneers Inc, for promotional activities with the purpose of acknowledging and promoting this group's historic ties with the City of Miami with funds therefore hereby alloca- ted in an amount not to exceed $4,500 from Special Programs and Accounts, Contingent Fund.
