Brief Description of Project (use only•bne page)
Bpunty of the Sea is an opportunity for local charities and restaurants
to show off their very best recipes using South Florida's abundant Seafoods,
as well as rare delicacies from the oceans of the'world. -Competition
is fierce for the coveted "first prize" ribbon, won in 184 by Renee Parsons,
for her authentically French Boullibasse recipe.
The festival will be alive with color and action this year with the
addition of a small carnival, complete with Ferris Wheel, pony rides and •
other attractionst Also included will be clowns, magicians, swordplay from
the University of Miami's Ring of Steele Players, a shark tank, complete
with a real shark and many films about ocean life.
Another highlight of the Bounty, of the Sea festival will be Mr. Jimmy
Buffett. Mr. Buffett will, once again, be donating his time to participate
in Planet Ocean's Manatee Workshops in conjunction with the -festival. The
workshops will be held for three age groups, including ... children, high
school level, and adult level. This event has proved to be tremendously popuLan:
in the past, and will, as always, be free of charge, with workshop materials
being available "at cost".
The "Save the Manatee Foundation" will realize all profits from the
carnival and sale of "T" shirts. -
The' primary objective of the Festival is to provide exciting and in-
expensive family entertainment and an opportunity for the general public to
become aware of, and to sample the succulent offerings of our bountiful oceanic
s' harvest.
t
3 We are also striving to attract more tourists to the area and to offer
them a refreshingly wholesome, vibrant and safe "taste" of South Florida's
pleasures ... from a sampling of seafood -.to a manatee workshop with South
Florida's own Jimmy Buffett - to clowns and a family style carnival. This
1 is a way to positively reinforce the virtues (seafood and sunshine) and
values ( joining together to save an endangered animal) of the people of
j Miami, the Keys and all of South Florida.
Bounty of the Sea will again be part of Oceans Mlami.•'85; a month -long ---
series of ocean relAted events. The growing importance of this event is in-•._
dicated by the decision of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities _
to hold it's World Congress during Oceans Miami Week. This event will bring
- approximately 5,000 delegates and their families to the Miami area.==•:-
