Eads Jr. DATE: rlobeler 29, 1984 TO: 7 RfL[e Assistant City Manager SUBJECT: N. W. 21 Terrace - Zoned Street Width Reduction FROM: :NCLOSURES:M EFERENCES: Aerial Photograph & Do' -($a 4 Director of Public Works unicipal Atlas Sheet Mr. Michel E. Anderson, Attorney, has requested an appearance before the City Commission concerning a reduction in the required street width of N. W. 21 Terrace from fifty feet to the platted thirty feet. Attached for your review are an aerial photograph and a municipal atlas sheet showing the subject property outlined in red. The reasons we object to rezoning the street to less than the zoned fifty feet are as follows: 1. All of the streets in the industrial area bounded by N. W. 20 Street, N. W. 7 Avenue, N. W. 17 Avenue and the Seaboard Coastline railroad tracks north of N. W. 22 Street are zoned and dedicated 50' or more in width except N. W. 21 Terrace between N. W. 10 and 12 Avenues. 2. The Code of the City of Miami establishes 50' as the minimum standard width for streets in the City. The 50' minimum width should especially be adhered to in industrial areas where truck traffic is heavy. 3. The minimum turning radii for single unit and semi- trailer combination trucks varies from 40' to 501. A 50' minimum width street right of way will provide needed maneuvering area for trucks. A 30' wide street right of way does not provide sufficient width for even the basic street elements, i.e. traffic lane, sidewalk, curb and gutter, utility pole clearance, etc. Based on these points, the Department of Public Works recommends against the requested reduction of N. W. 21 Terrace from fifty feet to thirty feet in width. WEP:WAM:rj J KENDALL EXECUTIVE CENTER • SUITE 102 October 10, 1984 MICHEL E. ANDERSON ATTORNEY At LAW "115 NORTH KENDALL DRIVE MIAMI.
