Re: In Kind Services for King Mango Strut Parade Dear friends: The third annual King Mango Strut Parade will be marching through Coconut Grove this December 30. Our event charms local residents and attracts a good deal of favorable publicity for South Florida. Last year our parade was on both the national news and NBC's Today Show. The Strut has grown from 1982's 20 groups to the 50 units that will be marching in two weeks. The participants come from areas such as Coral Gables, Liberty City and of course, the Grove. Our's is a small parade, just 20 minutes and four blocks long. At its end, this City's Parks Department sponsors a gathering in Peacock Park for all of the parade people. In the past, all of our funding ($500 per year) has come from our sponsor, The Coconut Grove Chamber Of Commerce. As you know, there has been a great increase of weekend traffic in the Grove. For this reason, the City's Police Department has asked us to hire many more officers for traffic control. We do not have the funds to pay these additional officers and other "growing expenses'. For this reason, we ask The City Of Miami for a small amount of in kind services. We need what the MPD suggests as the minimum number of officers needed: 3 officers for 2 hours (to help with forming up the parade and the parade itself) 5 officers for 1 hour (to help only with the parade). The parade begins at 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. The City is greatly benefited by this event. We hope you can help. Sincerely, `IONZAn NGlenn Terr Strut recto 441-0- 94- N2 .
