This memorandum provides an update on the status of the FY 185
Hiring Freeze.

On January 24, through Motion No. 85-67, you imposed a hiring
freeze on the 144 positions that were previously exempted on
December 3 and 13, 1984. The above mentioned motion provided
exemptions to Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and 10 positions in
Solid Waste, and gave approval to process paperwork for positions
for which the hiring process had been completed (medical
examinations administered and paperwork processed).
Additionally, you requested that positions for which firm job
offers had been made by January 24 be brought back to you for
approval before any hiring took place. The following table
represents the results of that motion and the current situation:

In accordance with Motion 85-67, we request exemption and
approval to hire 4 positions for which committments
were made as
of January 24, 1985, as described on line (a) above.

Complete exemption is now requested for 10 additional full-time
positions, in order to meet the operating requirements

*Other personnel includes positions such as Events supervisor,
General taborer (trade)t Restroofi Attendant and Scoreboard
operator. The number of positions on City payroll (and the
number of hours worked) depends on the event and are sometimes
covered by the promoter. Car Parkers are always on City p y
but again, the number of people and hours worked depends on each
event. Hirees are drawn from an active roster of 300
individuals.
