Mikele Carter v. City of Miami
and Jose Garcia -Pedrosa
I., <f t I, Retaining outside Counsel
N:, C,-ORES
Enclosed please find a Resolution authorizing the
City Attorney to hire Amy Dean, Esquire, of the Law Firm
of Broad and Cassel, as an Associate/Consultant on the
above -referenced case, which is pending before United
States District Court Judge Sidney Aronovitz (Case
No. 84-1716-Civ-Aronovitz).
i
f Also attached is a copy of Ms. Dean's resume showing
her background in the area of labor/personnel and employ-
ment civil rights matters.
The case involves Ms. Carter's claim that her
appointment as an Assistant City Attorney was wrongfully
revoked by the then City Attorney Jose Garcia -Pedrosa.
She also claims discrimination on the basis of age, sex,
and religion and alleges these claims against both the
City and Mr, Garcia -Pedrosa. (Her claim against the City
goes back to her employment between 1961 and 1973 at the
Police Department). We perceive a need for outside
counsel in this matter since it is expected that many
of our Assistant City Attorney's, past and present, as
well as the present City Attorney will be deposed and
it might be awkward for another Assistant to be the
only representative of the City.
We would, therefore, recommend having Ms. Dean as
an Associate/Consultant on this case.
