RESOLUTION NO. 85-"216
A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND
SINCEREST CONDOLENCES OF THE CITY COMMISSION
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS
CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF CHARLES
R. HADLEY UPON HIS DEATH.
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley ("Uncle Charlie"), who resided in
Miami since 1943, leaves behind an outstanding record of
community service and his name is imprinted in the annals of
Miami's history for his outstanding contributions to politics,
civil rights and the welfare of our community; and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley was instrumental in ensuring that
registration books be brought to Black neighborhoods throughout
Dade County to increase the number of Black voters; and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley entered national and local
politics and established "Operation Big Vote" which aided many
candidates in their bid for election for various offices; and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley was selected in 1960 as Man Of
The Year by UNLIMITED MAGAZINE and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,
Inc., and was a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Inc; a member of the Pride of Miami Masonic Lodge No. 438, and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley held many public appointments
among which were State of Forida Special Deputy Constable,
Special Assistant to the Secretary of State, member of the Miami
Town Meeting Committee, and City of Miami Urban Renewal
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Charles R. Hadley, at the time of his death, was a
member of the Miami Housing Authority, the City Of Miami Civil
Service Board, the Economic Opportunity Program, Inc. Committee,
the Advisory Board of Ameri-First Federal Savings and Loan
Association and the Advisory Board to Metro's Department of
Housing and Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission, on behalf
of the City of Miami and its citizens, to express its deepest

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. On behalf of the citizens of the City of Miami,
the City Commission hereby conveys to the family and friends of
Charles R. Hadley its deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences,
upon his death.
Section 2. The herein Resolution is offered by the City
Commission as a token of its respect and esteem.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 8th day of March, 1985.
