HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-85-0297N A, J-85-118 3/6/85 rr/058/D-T RESOLUTION NO. 85-29 7 A RESOLUTION RATIFYING, APPROVING AND CONFIRMING THE ACTION OF THE CITY MANAGER IN ESTABLISHING REDUCED GREENS FEES OF 50% OF SEASONAL RATES TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE ANNUAL NORTH -SOUTH GOLF TOURNAMENT HELD FEBRUARY 19-23, 1985, AT THE CITY OF MIAMI COUNTRY CLUB IN MIAMI SPRINGS, PROVIDING THAT (1) ELECTRIC CARTS WERE MANDATORY, (2) PRIZES WERE PURCHASED FROM THE MIAMI SPRINGS PRO SHOP AND (3) ALL TOURNAMENT PROCEEDS WENT TO THE 1985 MIAMI NORTH -SOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the City of Miami has, for the past 30 years, supported the efforts of the Annual North -South Golf Tournament in raising scholarship funds for deserving local youth; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Golf Division that continued support be granted in terms of reduced greens fees for tournament participants; and WHEREAS, establishment of said rates was a scheduled item for the February 14, 1985 City Commission Meeting, prior to the tournament, and time did not permit this item to be taken up, thereby necessitating the City Manager to authorize the above -mentioned rates contingent upon ratification, approval, and confirmation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The action of the City Manager in establishing reduced greens fees at 50% of current seasonal rates for participants of the Annual North -South Golf Tournament held February 19-23, 1985, at the City of Miami Country Club in Miami Springs, provided that (1) electric carts were mandatory, (2) prizes were purchased from the Miami Springs Pro Shop and (3) all tournament proceeds went to the 1985 Miami North -South Golf Scholarship Program, is hereby ratified, approved, and confirmed. For the past thirty (30) years the has been conducted at the City Springs; and has grown into one tournaments in the State. Annual North -South Golf Tournament of Miami Country Club in Miami of the largest public pro -amateur This prestigious event held on February 19-23, 1985, attracted approximately 288 golfers and their families from across the state, benefiting the City of Miami economically. The tournament's primary objective was to raise funds for college scholarships to deserving, local talent. As in previous years, it is recommended that the City support this worthwhile cause by offering reduced greens fees, at 50% of current seasonal rates, to participants provided 1) electric golf carts are mandatory, 2) prizes are purchased in the pro shop and 3) all tourna- ment proceeds go to the 1985 Miami North -South Scholarship Program. Considering the above mandates and the projected volume of partici- pants, the City stands to gain in revenues for this period. In that this item was not taken up at the February 14th meeting, prior to the tournament, the City Manager authorized the above mentioned rates contingent upon ratification, approval, and confirmation by the City Commission, as per the attached resolution.
