RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING AN AMOUNT NOT TO
EXCEED $1600 FROM SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND
ACCOUNTS, QUALITY OF LIFE FUND, FOR A FEE
WAIVER FOR THE USE OF GUSMAN CULTURAL CENTER
ON MARCH 29 AND 30, 1985, IN SUPPORT OF THE
"ARTS SHOWCASE '85"; SAID ALLOCATION BEING e
CONDITIONED UPON SUBSTANTIAL COMPLIANCE WITH_
CITY OF MIAMI ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY NO. APM-

WHEREAS,
the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts has

contributed to
the development of young Miami artists; and s,
WHEREAS,
the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts has
planned the "ARTS Showcase '85" in Gusman Cultural Center on March 29
and 39, 1985; and
WHEREAS, a fee waiver for the use of Gusmsan Cultural Center on
said dates has been requested;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. An amount not to exceed $1600 is hereby allocated
from Special Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life Fund, for a fee

waiver for the use of Gusman Cultural Center on March 29 and 30, +A`

1985, in support of the ARTS Showcase '85, produced by the National ¢y.
Foundation For Advancement in the Arts.
Section 2. The herein allocation is conditioned upon substantial
compliance with City of Miami Administrative Policy No. APM-1-84,
dated January 24, 1984.

"It is recommended that an amount not..to
exceed $1600 be allocated from Special
Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life
Fund, for a fee waiver for the use of
Gusman Cultural Center on March 29 and
30, 1985, in support of the 'ARTS Show-
case '85', per the attached resolution."
The Arts Recognition and Talent Search (ARTS) identifies, encourages,
and rewards 17 and 18 year -olds with exceptional" talent in- music,
dance, theater, writing and the visual arts. The National Foundation
for Advancement in the Arts (NFAA) has planned the ARTS Showcase '85
for March 29 and 30, 1985, in the Gusman Cultural Center.
NFAA has requested a $1600 fee waiver for the use of Gusman Cultural
Center on March 29 and 30, 1985 for this event. The Foundation has
already received a total of $15,600:from the Metro -Dade Council of
Arts and Sciences ($5,000), the Dade County School Board ($600) and
The Florida Bar ($10,000).
The Parks and Recreation Department recommends that this request be
granted with funds available from Special Programs and Accounts,
Quality of Life Fund.

ENCLOSURES:
Attached is a resolution and cover memorandum submitted by the
Department of Parks and Recreation in connection with the "ARTS
Showcase 185" sponsored by National Foundation for Advancement
in the Arts to be held on March 29 and 30, 1985 at the Gusman
Cultural Center.
This organization identifies, encourages and rewards young people
with exceptional talent in music, dance, theater and the visual
arts.
The Department of Parks and Recreation recommends that $1600 be
allocated to cover the rental of the Gusman Cultural Center for
the event. This organization has received funding from the
following sources: $5,000 from the Metro -Dade Council of Arts
and Sciences, $600 from the Dade County School Board and $10,000
from the Florida Bar.
If this item meets with your approval, it may be placed on the
February 14,1985 agenda.
