Rosencrantz DATE: March 6, 1985 f1LE: City Manager FROM: Carl Kern, Director Parks and Recreation Department Resolution Allocating SUBJECT: Funds In Support of the Charity Basketball Tournament REFERENCESa ENCLOSURES: "It is recommended that an amount not to exceed $10,000 be allocated from Special Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life Fund, to cover the cost of fee waivers for the use of the Miami Convention Center on March 22 and 23, 1985, in support of the First Annual Professional Football Players Charity Basketball Tournament, per the attached resolu- tion." The City Commission, on February 28, 1985, directed the City Manager to assist the organizers of the First Annual Professional Football Players Charity Basketball Tournament in any way possible. This event, planned for March 22 and 23, 1985, expects to raise $80,000 for the Ethiopian Hunger Drive. Although this Department does not usually recommend support for fund raisers, we are recommending that this event be awarded a fee waiver for the use the Miami Convention Center. This recommendation is based on the extreme conditions in Ethiopia and on the fact that the participants are all donating their time to this humanitarian effort. Funds for this $10,000 allocation are available from Special Programs and Accounts, Quality of Life Fund. slm Attachments cc: Law Department M 8V -272
