I have also enclosed a copy of last year's contract. As you know, we were able to surpass and almost duplicate the requirements of the contract, even though they were quite stringent. I hope you can bring our request to the City Commission as soon as possible, since we would like to begin work on the first tour (September 30 - October 7th, 1985) as soon as possible. (ALA), to conduct three tours of natioiral ani international journalists in 1985-198b. BACRGROUND: MIAMI--A 14EW WORLD CENTER is a program of journalist tours initiated by Dr. Aida Levitan, President of ALA, = in October 1980, %..hen sh` served as Director of Public - Information of the City of Miami. The program has brought more than 400 prominent journalists from the U.S. and abroad, wha havice generated over 400 = articles and broadcasts un Muni as an international center of business, culture, health, tourism and sports. 1984-1985 Under contract to the City of Miami, ALA and its sub - PROGRAM: contractor LOFT & CELLAR, Inc., generated more than 90 positive articles and programs through the visit of - 80 national and international journalists. Publications included such prestigious newspapers as The Chicago Tribure, The Times of London, Le Journal de Montreal, Japan Economic Journal, La Estrella de Panama, La Republica of Colombia, E1 Comercio of Lima and many others. Even though the contract required only 40 articles for basic fulfillment and payment, ALA and LOFT & CELLAR generated more than twice this amount at no additional cost. PROPOSED First Tour - September 30-October 7th, 1985: This tour DATES FOR will feature the Irteramerican Congress of Municipalities TOURS: sponsored by the City of Miami, as well as the first part of the Hispanic Heritage Festival. Second Tour - First week of December, 1985 - This tour will coincide with the Sunstreet Festival and the Caribbean Conference. Third Tour - March 4-11, 1986 - This tour would feature most of'the events of the CARNAVAL MIAMI celebration as well as a strong emphasis on Miami as an interna- tional health and financial center. TOTAL COST $40,000 (see attached budget). Professional fees for Loft s Cellar, Inc. for 10,000.00 the coordination of visits to Liberty City, Overtown and Coconut Grove areas during the September and March tours; and for trie direct implementation of the December tour. Secretarial services for three tours 3,000.00 Long-distance calls and telephone services 30000.00 Xerox copying 500.00 Printing of programs and other information materials and itineraries for three tours 2,000.00 Photographic services 500.00 Per Diem expenses: Parking fees for contractors' 600.00 staff, occasional taxi fares for journalists, occasional entertainment expenses incurred on behalf of journalists.
