FOR SUPPLYING FURNITURE FOR THE CURTIS PARK ELDERLY MEALS FACILITY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AT A TOTAL ESTIMATED AMOUNT OF $31,525.00; ALLOCATING FUNDS THEREFOR FROM THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT PROGRAM; AUTHORIZING THE MANAGER TO INSTRUCT THE ASSISTANT CHIEF PROCUREMENT OFFICER TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER FOR TH18 EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 22, 1985 for the supplying of Furniture for the Curtis Park Elderly Meals Facility to the Department of Community Development; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 43 potential suppliers and 8 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Community Development Block Grant Program; and WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department s., of Community Development for the purpose of supplying furniture at the Curtis Park Elderly Meals Facility; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Director of the Department of Community Development recommend that the bid °a received from Thomas W. Ruff Co. be accepted as the lowest responsible and responsive bid; 3N NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The May 22, 1985 bid of Thomas W. Ruff Co., in the amount of $31,525 for the purpose of supplying dining chairs, plastic chair glides, dollies, and dining tables for the Curtis Park Elderly Meals Facility. Funds are available from the Community Development Block Grant Program to cover the cost of this acquisition. Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received from eight (8) firms interested in supplying furniture for the Curtis Park Elderly Meals Facility. Thomas W. Ruff Company presented the lowest bid meeting specifications in the amount of $31,525 for the supply of 450 dining stack chairs, 450 sets of plastic glides for the chairs, dollies and 67 folding dining tables. This furniture will be used to partially furnish the Curtis Park Meal Facility, which will be completed in September, 1985. In July, 1983 and April, 1984, the City Commission allocated funds from the Federal Jobs Bill and Community Development Block Grant Contingent Fund to construct a new meals facility in Curtis Park for Allapattah Community Action, Inc. It is recommended that the award be made to the lowest bid meeting the specifications, Thomas W. Ruff Co. Metropolitan Dade County Minority Vendor Directory. 2. Bidder applications on file in Purchasing. 3. Previous bids on file in Purchasing. 4. Yellow Pages telephone book. Minority response consisted of only one (1) bid from a black firm. BID EVALUATION: This bid award is for dining room chairs and tables for the Curtis Park Elderly Meals Facility which must be ready for use no later than September 30th. The low bid of LOPC Joyce was for alternate models requiring special manufacturing. The delivery time is 21 weeks which would not enable the City to complete the facility by the required date. The low bid of Long Office Supply was for alternate models which meet the specifications. However, the delivery time is 16 weeks, which again, would not enable the City to complete the facility by the required date.
