A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH LAWYERS TITLE INSURANCE CORPORATION, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $2 022S, AND INTO A CONTRACT WITH PATRICIA MELLERSON, A MINORITY CONTRACTOR, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EMCEED $22,215, TO PERFORM ABSTRACT SERVICES ON APPROXIMATELY i,000 PROPERTIES WHICH - HAVE DELINQUENT SOLID WASTE BILLS SOTHAT ALL PARTIES WITH INTEREST IN SUCH PROPERTIES MAY BE NOTIFIED OF IMMINENT LEGAL ACTION TO COLLECT DELINQUENT SOLID WASTE FEES WITH FUNDING THEREFOR ALLOCATED FROM THE SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT'S CURRENT YEAR OPERATING BUDGET, WITH THE CONCURRENCE OF THE SOLID WASTE AND LAW DEPART- MENTS AND WITH THE COSTS TO BE ADDED TO THE OUTSTANDING DELINQUENT SOLID WASTE FEES. WHEREAS, the City of Miami is actively pursuing the collection of solid waste fees; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to notify all parties that have an interest in the property prior to initiating legal action; and WHEREAS, Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, and Patricia Mellerson, responded to a request for proposal mailed to thirteen abstract companies and WHEREAS, it has been determined that the use of _,a - professional abstract company is the most cost effective method of doing the work; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,-FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into professional service agreements with Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, in an amount not to exceed $27,225, and Patricia Mellerson, a minority contractor, in an amount not to exceed $22,275, to perform abstract services on approximately 1,000 properties which have delinquent solid waste bills so that all parties with interest in such properties may be notified of imminent legal action to collect delinquent solid waste fees,with funding therefor allocated from the Solid Waste Department's current year operating budget, with the concurrence of the Solid Waste and Low Departments and with the costs to be added to the outst,anding delinquent solid waste fees. 1'A$SED AND ADQP-7 D on this the 18day of jay ;a 1986, Maurice A. The Departments of Finance and Law are actively pursuing- the d collection of solid waste fee accounts. One step- in the process is to notify the owner and a I I other persons, companies, banks, etc., r that have an interest in the property that legal actin to collect the fee is imminent. , To ascertain the correct information related to parties that have an r: interest in the property, a search of the Title and related records is required. The most efficient and professional method of verifying this- information is to contract for the services of an abstract . uw company. ` > A letter requesting quotes on the work to be performed was mailed to .. thirteen companies that doabstract work.
