AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE TEXT OF ORDINANCE NO. 9500, T hE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY CF MIAMI, FLORIDA, 3Y AMENDING SECTION 2026 UNTITLED "SIGNS, SPECIFIC LIMITATIONS, AND REQUIREMENTS" BY: PLACING RESTRICTIONS ON OUTDOOR ADVERTISING SIGNS LOCATED WITHIN 600 FEET OF LIMITED ACCESS HIGHWAYS AND EXPRESS - 'NAYS; RESTRICTING THE NUMBER OF SUCH 5I1,iNS 4HICH MAY FACE SAID hIGHWAYS AND EXPRESSWAYS TO 10 IN NUMBER, PROVIDED THEY ARE LOCATED ivITHIN 200 FEET OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY OF SAID HIGHWAYS AND WEST OF INTERSTATE 95; PROVIDING FOR LANDSCAPING AND PERMIT REVOCATIONS; AND ESTABLISHING PRIORITY OF APPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEARINGS; CONTAINING A REPEALER PROVISION AND A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE. WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City Commission to protect and promote the economy of the City of Miami which is strongly tourist oriented with a heavy emphasis on the visual and physical environment; and WHEREAS, Interstate 95 and the _I1iy\ted Access Expressways and Highways which flow from itl some of the most heavily traveled traffic arteriesVnasmuch a City Hof Miami; and WHEREAS, the placemege numbers of outdoor adver- tising signs along tho within the City pose a threat to the motoring gLblic as they distract from the operation of mot6 4 vlehicles thereby increasing the hazards from such operation t e general public; and WHE AS, strictions contained herein are designed to control th mber of such outdoor advertising signs thereby reducin t amount of distraction and probability of accidents caused such distraction; and WHEREAS, the skyline and the bay view of the City or Miami East of I-95 is an integral part of the aesthetics package which attracts tourists and promotes domestic tranquility; and 1 WHEREAS, it is the intent of the City Commission to -protect the view of the skyline, Biscayne Bay, and other features within and without the City of Miami that come within the view of travelers utilizing said expressways; and
