HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-85-0810J-85-465 5/6/85 RESOLUTION NO.J"-��.R, A RESOLUTION DELEGATING TO THE MIAMI SPORTS AND EXHIBITION AUTHORITY ("AUTHORITY") THE AUTHORITY TO SOLICIT SPONSORSHIPS AND PROMOTIONAL LICENSES ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI IN FURTHERANCE OF CHAPTER 52.6 OF THE CITY OF MIAMI CODE AT NO COST TO THE CITY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY TO APPROVE THE SPONSORSHIP AGREEEMENTS PRIOR TO EXECUTION. WHEREAS, on July 28, 1983, the City Commission approved Ordinance No. 9662 adopting Chapter 52.6 of the City Code therebv creating the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority; and WHEREAS, Section 52.6-2, City Code requires the Authority to promote sports, conventions and exhibitions to the greatest extent feasible And shall strive to generate further community support to achieve this purpose; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 52.6-7, City Code, the Authority, to the greatest extent feasible, must implement the exercise of its powers in a manner which utilizes and encourages the fullest and most active participation and cooperation of private enterprise; and 1 WHEREAS, in accordance with Section 52.6-12, City Code, it is the intention of the City Commission that the Authority actively solicit contributions and financial support from private business interests in the City; and WHEREAS, on September 30, 1984, after competitive negotiations, the Authority entered into an agreement with Del Wilber and Associates, an Informational Services Consultant, whereby the Consultant was engaged to provide a host of promotional and marketing services including the initiation of sponsorship and promotional licenses; and WHEREAS, the initiation of sponsorship and promotional licenses will serve to provide extensive exposure and financial gain to the Authority; and i 5 '` 14 WHEREAS, initiation of the sponsorship and promotional licenses could not only maximize the benefits to the Authority, but could also be beneficial to the City at large; and WHEREAS, the structure for initiating the sponsorship and promotional licenses has been created by the Authority; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. The Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority is hereby delegated the Authority to solicit and qrant sponsorships and promotional licenses on behalf of the City of Miami at no cost to the City, in furtherance of Chapter 52.6, City of Miami Code. Section 2. The City Manager and City Attorney are hereby authorized to approve the sponsorship and promotional licensing agreements prior to their execution. SUB Ez- Sports and Exhibition Authority's Solicitation of Sponsorships and Promotional Licenses for the City MEFERENCES =NCLOSURES ( 1) Resolution It is recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Miami Sports E Ex- hibition Authority to Solicit Sponsorships and Promotional Licenses on behalf of the City of Miami and for the City Manager & City Attorney to approve the agreements prior to execution. The City Code requires the Authority to promote sports, conventions and exhibitions to the greatest extent feasible. The Authority is also required to implement the exercise of its powers in a manner which utilizes and en- courages the fullest and most active participation and cooperation of private enterprise by actively soliciting contributions and financial support from private business interest in the City. In furtherance of these objectives, on September 30, 1985, after competitive negotiations, the Authority entered into an agreement with Del Wilber E Associates, an Informational Services Consultant. They were engaged to provide promotional and marketing services including the initiation of spon- sorship and promotional licensing development plans which will serve to provide extensive exposure and financial gain to the Authority and the City at large. The Authority has created the structure to implement the sponsorship and promotional licensing development plans. It is therefore recommended that the City Commission approve the attached Resolution authorizing the Miami Sports S Exhibition Authority to solicit sponsorships and promotional licenses on behalf of the City of Miami and for the City Manager and City Attorney to approve the sponsorship agreements prior to execution.
