A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN THE CONTRACT AMOUNT OF $50,000 IN THE CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA AND TARGET CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC., DATED MAY 3, 1985 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM, SAID FUNDS TO BE PROVIDED FROM "SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS, CONTINGENCY FUND"; FURTHER RATIFYING THE CITY MANAGER'S WRITTEN FINDING THAT THE HEREIN INCREASE RESULTED FROM EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES BY AN AFFIRMATIVE VOTE OF FOURTH - FIFTHS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CITY COMMISSION, AND ADOPTING THE FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS SET FORTH IN THE PREAMBLE OF THIS RESOLUTION WHEREAS, there exists a contract dated May 3, 1985, between the City of Miami, Florida and Target Construction Co., Inc., in the amount of $140,000 for the construction of City Hall - Conference Room; and WHEREAS, an increase in contract is required to cover the added cost of construction caused by the modifications and additions to the work as required by unforeseen existing conditions and as requested by the Mayor; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has made a written finding that a valid emergency exists for the work to be done at this time; and WHEREAS, the Director of the Department of Public Works recommends the increase in contract to cover the additional cost; and WHEREAS, funds for the increase are available from "Special Programs and Accounts, Contingency Fund"; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: CITY MEETIjIG OI' `F P m5tqu�� hLMHf'h5 Section 1. After a properly advertised Public Hearing, the finding of the City Manager set forth in the preamble of this resolution is hereby ratified by an affirmative vote of four -fifths of the City Commission and adopted as if fully set forth in this section. Section 2. The contract between the City of Miami, Florida and Target Construction Company, Inc., dated May 3, 1985, for the construction of City Hall - Conference Room is hereby increased by $50,000, with funds therefor hereby allocated from "Special Programs and Accounts, Contingency Fund". Honorable Mayor Ferre DATE: FILE, 5-321 -i and Members of the City S E P 0 19$5 Commission SUBJEC- CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM Resolution for Increase in Contract Amount FROM Sergio Pereir REFERENCES City Manager _ ENCLOSURES- (For Commission Meeting of September 12, 1985) The Department of Public Works recommends adoption of a resolution authorizing an increase in the contract amount of $50,000 in the contract between the City of Miami, Florida and Target Construction Co., Inc.; said funds to be provided from "Special Programs and Accounts, Contingency Fund"; further ratifying the City Manager's written finding that the increase resulted from emergency circumstances by an affirmative vote of fourth -fifths of the members of the City Commission, and adopting the findings and conclusions set forth in the preamble of the resolution. During the construction of City Mail - Conference Room by Target Construction Co., Inc., under a contract dated May 3, 1985, unforeseen existing conditions were encountered that caused changes and additions -to be made to the work. Additionally, modifications and additions to the work were requested. We have authorized the contractor to proceed with the additional work, but in doing so have completely depleted allowances set up in the original contract to cover air conditioning and furnishings for the new work, and it is necessary to authorize an increase in contract in the amount of $50,000 to replenish these funds and to obtain a completed project. CITY HALL - CONFERENCE ROOM LL Emergency Need for Increase in Contract Amount FROM: Sergio Pere ra REFERENCES: City Manager ENCLOSURES: (For Commission Meeting of September 12, 1985) Based on information supplied to me by the Director of the Public Works Department, I have found there exists an emergency need for an increase in contract amount of $50,000 in the contract between the City of Miami, Florida and Target Construction Company, Inc., for the construction of City Hall - Conference Room. The reason for the emergency need is as follows: During the construction unforeseen conditions were encountered that required modifications and additions to the work. Further, additional modifications and additions to the work were requested by the Mayor during the construction.
